Understanding Hekate and How to Work with Her

Written By: Victoria L. in collaboration with Jer

When it comes to Hekate, people generally fall into one of two groups: those who feel drawn to working with her and those who are hesitant because they see her as an evil or dark spirit.

In truth, Hekate represents an energy or collective consciousness that invites profound transformation and shadow work.

Hekate and Shadow Work

Hekate’s energy is transformative and deeply tied to shadow work. She encourages us to confront the unconscious parts of ourselves – our traumas, repressed emotions, and deepest wounds.

In doing so, she invites us to make a choice: to either face our own inner darkness or continue to run from ourselves. If we choose to face ourselves, we will initiate a dissolution of the false self, the self we create to protect ourselves and cope with life. In doing so, we step into the void within ourselves, a space of both vast emptiness and limitless potential. It is within this space where we strip away all that is not truly us so we may live more authentic and fulfilling lives.

The True Nature of Hekate

As with many spiritual concepts, there are many misunderstandings about Hekate. Many people unconsciously project their own mother wounds onto her, viewing her as either a nurturing or punishing mother figure. In many cases, people doing this will think they must leave offerings for Hekate or do rituals thinking that it will get Hekate to reward them in someway. They may also worry that Hekate will punish them if they do not engage in certain practices.

While Hekate does often manifest as a mother archetype, it’s essential to avoid projecting our own mother wounds onto her energy.

Although in this article I’ve been using “she/her” and “who”to refer to Hekate to make things simple, the reality is that Hekate is not a singular entity. Rather, she is a higher-dimensional, extraterrestrial intelligence – a collective consciousness that exists within our solar system that emanates a dark feminine energy.

As such, Hekate transcends human familial dynamics. Rather than acting as a parent who judges or shames, Hekate observes and supports ou revolutionary process. She understands that making mistakes is a necessary part of our growth, and she is not attached to the outcomes of our choices. Instead, she provides guidance while allowing us the freedom to learn through experience.

When we approach Hekate from a healthy space, we recognize that she does not wish to judge or shame us. Rather, she is there to support us on our journeys.

The Crossroads: A Spacefor Transformation

When we work with Hekate, eventually we will reach what I call “the crossroads”. Or we may reach the crossroads first, then feel called to work with Hekate. The crossroads symbolizes the choice we all must ultimately make when it comes to our own personal journeys: the choice of whether to face ourselves or continue to run.

As humans, we run from ourselves in many ways. Some of us repeatedly get into unhealthy, even abusive relationships or jobs. Others abuse drugs, alcohol, food, video games, sex, or porn. Others become workaholics. Still others buy stuff we don’t need, to the point of putting ourselves in financial jeopardy. Regardless of what we do to escape, by engaging in these patterns of behavior, or simply living lives that are not aligned to who we truly are, we will experience negative effects in our life, especially if we continue to engage in them knowing that doing so is harming us.

When we reach the crossroads, we must decide whether to honor or resist our own process of healing. If we resist our process by not facing the traumas we’ve gone through and continuing to cycle in unhealthy patterns, this will eventually result in karmic consequences. This is because we are now consciously ignoring what is in our own highest good, while previously we may have been making such choices unconsciously.

For example, imagine a person repeatedly gets into unhealthy relationships where she gets cheated on. For many years, she may repeatedly find herself in these circumstances and eventually comes to the realization that due to some of her childhood trauma, she may be attracting partners who have certain traits, including the tendency to cheat.

Knowing this, she chooses not to work on healing the trauma she went through and continues to ignore red flags in new relationships. As a result, she finds herself in the same circumstances, repeatedly. Whereas previously she may have been unaware of the pattern, now she is making a conscious decision and choosing to not change course.

Once we become aware that the choices we may be making are bad for us but continue to make them and not try to do the work, we will begin to see even greater negative consequences in our lives.

None of this is to shame anyone or blame them for the negative behaviors of other people. Getting cheated on is a very painful thing to go through, and it’s not the fault of the person who has been cheated on.The person in the wrong is the cheater. However, if we tolerate the behavior, ignore red flags, blame others, and choose to not look within ourselves to see why a pattern is repeating in our lives, we will perpetuate the pattern happening in our lives and continue in a negative cycle.

As I said earlier, part of being human is making mistakes. Even after we become conscious of unhealthy patterns in our lives, we may sometimes relapse. However, if we continue to do this over and over, recognize the pattern, and make no effort to make a change, we will prevent our own personal growth and even bring about our own destruction.

What Happens When We Choose to Face Ourselves

When we choose to face ourselves and do the inner work, this involves a descent into the underworld or “hell”.

The underworld is simply a metaphor for our unconscious mind. This is where our unresolved traumas, unhealed wounds, and repressed emotions reside. If we remain unconscious of them or choose not to confront them, we will remain stuck in life. We may achieve a certain degree of success, depending on our circumstances, but eventually we will hit a wall.

By facing these aspects of ourselves, we unlock the ability to reconnect with our higher, authentic selves. This process rewires our nervous system and allows us to live more aligned, fulfilling lives. Hekate can help us with this process.

Misconceptions about Working with Hekate

Mainstream approaches to Hekate often focus on rituals, spells, and offerings. While these practices can be meaningful, they should serve as gateways to deeper shadow work, not as replacements. Simply performing a ritual or casting a spell without engaging in the true inner work limits the transformative potential of Hekate’s energy.

For example, some people turn to spells to manifest things they desire in their lives. In some cases, this is not a healthy practice because it indicates that the individual thinks they must control outcomes in their lives or have something external from themselves in order to be happy or fulfilled. This signifies that they feel unworthy of receiving what they want naturally. When we do the inner work, we will naturally align with what we’re meant to be aligned with. We will not have to chase it.

In a similar way, performing rituals for Hekate out of fear or obligation – for example, “Hekate likes this, so I must do it to please her”– can stem from mother wound projections.

These surface-level practices are not inherently bad but should be integrated with introspection and healing.

Personal Transformation through Hekate

When worked with in the true way she is meant to be workedwith, Hekate’s energy has a profound impact on those who work with her. Shereveals unhealthy coping mechanisms and patterns, encouraging us to releasethem. For example, I realized that my over-reliance on occult rituals was a wayof avoiding deeper self-work. Hekate guided me to confront these tendencies, leading to significant personal growth.

In 2019, after working with Hekate for some time, I embarkedon initiations in the Qlippoth, which marked a turning point in my journey. While intense, these experiences pushed me to face the shadow aspects of myselfon an even deeper level. This work requires commitment and courage, but therewards are life changing. I am a testament to this, as someone who hascompletely changed my life for the better because of this deep inner work.

The Evolutionary Role of Hekate

By helping us heal and reconnect with our authentic selves through deep shadow work, Hekate contributes to the collective evolution of humanity. Hekate is not a singular entity, but rather the collective consciousness of an extraterrestrial species. This is similar to how humanity has a collective consciousness as a species. In other words, we are all connected. Unlike common misconceptions, many extraterrestrial beings wish to help with humanity’s evolution, rather than control or harm us.

For this reason, it’s important to approach Hekate with respect and recognize that Hekate is not like a mother who punishes or shames us. She is an energy that exists to help us face and integrate our shadow so that we may evolve to our highest potentials, as individuals and a collective.

Final Thoughts

Hekate is not an energy to take lightly. Her presence in your life signifies a call to profound transformation. She will bring hidden truths to light and challenge you to face them. While this process can be uncomfortable, it is also deeply rewarding.

She helps us dissolve the false self, formed from trauma and programming, so we may reconnect with our higher self, or authentic self, and step into the lives we were meant to live. Through her guidance, we can heal ourselves and, in doing so, contribute to the collective healing of humanity.
